If you will be shooting the Nikon Z 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 VR S Lens from a tripod you’re going to want a replacement foot. As I write this post the lens is already arriving in the hands of Nikon shooters across the globe, such exciting time after a long, long wait.
To date, there has not been mention of a replacement foot for the Nikon Z 100-400. Well I have some good news for you, they are out there, you just need to know where to look.
Nikon Z 100-400 Replacement Foot
The good news is there are two available options for replacement feet for the Nikon Z 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 VR S Lens. Both are listed as replacement feet for the Nikon Z 70-200 2.8 but both lenses take the same foot.
I can 110% confirm this as I have the 70-200 2.8 foot attached to my Nikon Z 100-400 and it fits perfectly.
The replacement foot from Kirk is the least expensive option and the one that I purchased.
Option 1: Kirk Z 100-400 Replacement Foot – Available From B&H $90
If you are a fan of Really Right Stuff and don’t mind forking out an additional $30 they have a replacement foot for the Nikon Z 100-400 as well.
Option 2: Really Right Stuff Z 100-400 Replacement Foot – Available From B&H $120
Nikon Z 100-400 Lens Plate
Option 3: There is one other low budget solution for tripod mounting the Z 100-400 and that is a lens plate. I’ve always found that plates held on by one screw tend to allow the plate to twist. For an extra $40 I buy the replacement foot, it’s one less thing to worry about while in the field.
Kirk KLP-360 Quick Release Lens Plate – Available From B&H $50 (Verified Compatibility)
Really Right Stuff L85 Multiuse Fore-Aft Plate – Available From B&H $65 (Verification Requested)
Nikon Z 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 VR S Lens
If you own a Nikon Z camera and shoot action or sports the Nikon Z 100-400 is a lens that you really should consider adding to your bag. Its performance is exceptional even with the Nikon Z TC-1.4X and Nikon Z TC-2.0X teleconverters.
I performed a field test on this lens with both teleconverters on my Nikon Z6II. I’m confident that you will find the review and sample images to be very convincing. You can read that post at Nikon Z 100-400 | Teleconverter Field Test 1.4 & 2.0.
