The new Nikonz6ii mirrorless camera NEF files can be viewed in the Nikon Capture NX-D software.
Until Adobe updates their Camera Raw to support the Nikon z6ii and Nikon Z7ii or other software vendors like DXO, ACDSee, Luminar, ON1, etc. update their software you will be unable to view your RAW NEF files coming out of the Nikon Z6ii and Nikon Z7ii cameras.
Your Two Choices
- Shoot RAW + JPEG and view the JPEGS knowing that the NEF files will be supported in the future
- Download Nikon’s Capture NX-D software which fully supports the new NEF files coming out of both the Nikon Z6ii and Nikon Z7ii camera’s.
The Nikon Capture NX-D program works just fine at opening the NEF files as shown below. You will need to be patient, I found it to be very slow to transition from one photo to another.
I will definitely be switching back to DxO Photolab 4 and Luminar AI once they update their software to support these NEF files.
